ASC Association Analyzes Impact of Federal Debt Deal on Surgery Centers
Comments off · Posted by Dan in Ambulatory Surgery Centers
The Ambulatory Surgery Center Association has indicated that if the congressional committee charged under the Budget Control Act of 2011 to identify means of reducing the country’s deficit by $1.5 trillion between 2012 and 2021 fails in its responsibility, the result could be a reduction of Medicare reimbursement to ASCs and other providers, according to a report in the ASCA Government Affairs Update.
The Budget Control Act of 2011 (pdf) was signed by President Obama on Aug. 9.
“It seems clear that the government is moving towards deficit reductions through spending cuts and, potentially, tax increases,” according to the report. “As low-cost, high-quality providers of care, ASCs can help to reduce federal spending on healthcare, but only if lawmakers understand ASCs and the benefits they provide.”
